Who You Are

A hands-on technical leader to serve as our Director of Information Technology. This role blends strategic leadership with active software development—ideal for someone who writes code daily while leading our technology infrastructure and development teams. The successful candidate will be highly skilled in the Python and Ruby ecosystems, providing both technical direction and driving organizational strategy.

Location: Remote (with potential travel as needed)

Job Type: Full-Time / Consulting

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain an active coding role across Python and Ruby projects
• Lead by example with direct code contributions, code reviews, and debugging complex technical issues
• Provide strategic leadership for software development, database management, and infrastructure teams
• Write and review code for critical system components and high-priority features
• Oversee development and maintenance across Python and Ruby on Rails technology stacks
• Lead database architecture decisions, ensuring optimal performance of the PostgreSQL infrastructure
• Establish and enforce development standards, including code quality metrics, review processes, and testing protocols
• Guide the implementation and improvement of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Manage and mentor technical team leads and senior developers, while remaining hands-on technically
• Collaborate with department heads to align IT initiatives with business objectives
• Drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new technologies through practical, hands-on leadership

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in technology roles, with at least 5 years in senior technical leadership
• Actively coding, with recent hands-on development in Python or Ruby on Rails
• Proven ability to balance technical execution and leadership responsibilities
• Extensive experience with PostgreSQL and large-scale database architecture
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining technical expertise through regular coding
• In-depth understanding of software development best practices, including testing, code reviews, and quality assurance
• Familiarity with cloud technologies and infrastructure management
• Strong project management and multitasking skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for both technical and business audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active coding experience in both Python and Ruby
• Hands-on experience with modern JavaScript frameworks and frontend technologies
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and containerized environments
• Proven ability to implement and manage CI/CD pipelines while contributing to the codebase
• Experience with Agile methodologies and team leadership
• Demonstrated success in IT strategy development and execution
• Familiarity with integrating and managing enterprise-level APIs and legacy system integrations
